Sonia Boreham
You have just come back from a month on holidays. How was it and where did you go?
Ive just returned from Spain, the Greek Islands and London. Perfect combination of sunshine, food, culture and relaxation.
Any funny experiences whilst you were away that you can share with us?
The day we flew into London there was a tube strike. The whole of London was at a standstill. We were stuck on a bus that was going nowhere, when a friend called to say her brother had just bought a speedboat and would pick us up. So we got off the bus and wheeled our 20kg suitcases past the long line of people patiently waiting for the ferry to the speedboat where four handsome lads hauled us and our suitcases on board and off we went up the Thames, doing donuts along the way.
What were the highlights of your trip?
I loved Barcelona and Granada. The Spanish never seem to sleep, there is always something going on no matter how late it is.
How was the food over in Europe ?
The food was amazing. We ate loads of seafood, tapas, paella, moussaka , pastries mmm. I came home with an extra roll or two!
Did you exercise whilst you were away?
We did a lot of walking, about 8 hours a day. I threw my sandals away in Greece!
How long have you trained with WG Fitness and what is it that brings you back especially in those cold winter months?
Ive been with WG Fitness for over 3 years. I love that every session is challenging and different. There is a real team dynamic and Wayne encourages us to push that little bit more every time. Winter is no issue , we just layer up and push through.
You are naturally fit are there any exercises that we do that you just dread?
The hill runs kill me!
You have taken up the challenge of doing the 100km Oxfam Trail Walk this year with Inga, Aimie and Tammy. How has your preparation been and what are you expecting from the walk?
Weve done one 30km training session on the track and weve been running, walking and attending our WG sessions. Im expecting it to be very tough. We are going to pull together and push each other through to the finish line.
Have you girls set a time you would like to complete the course in?
I think we just want to finish! Ideally it would be good to get under 30 hours.
You grew up in Brisbane and became a primary school teacher there before coming to Sydney. Any funny stories from your teaching days that you could share with us?
Children are natural comedians. It wasnt funny at the time, but we took about 25 5year olds to the zoo for the day and one went missing. I was beside myself. I eventually found him in the bird enclosure trying to catch a peacock. The birds were screeching and running around in a blur of feathers. Needless to say he held my hand for the remainder of the excursion.
What brought you to Sydney?
I love the pace of life here. There is always something to do.
What are the major differences between the two cities?
Brisbane is super laidback and quite an easy city to live in. Sydney has energy and a natural beauty that I really enjoy.
Thanks for all your support over the years Sonia and best of luck with the huge challenge of walking the 100km Oxfam track in August. Have you got a web address we can donate to?
Our target is to raise $5,000 for Oxfam. We are almost halfway!
We would appreciate any donations and you can click on the link below to donate:
